Riding bicycles in a city can be dangerous for both cyclists, pedestrians and motorists. To protect all parties we ask all out cyclists to sign and agree to the following Code of Ethics.

___As responsible cyclists who wish to ride under McGill Cycling Team colours, we shall:

  1. Always wear helmets.

  2. Never wear earphones while riding.

  3. Be prepared for mechanical failures by carrying tools, spare tire or patch kit, pump or CO2 and know how to use them. If unsure, speak to a more experienced member of the team.

  4. Respect the diversity of skills on the team by staying as a group throughout the ride.

  5. Carry enough nutrition and hydration for the duration of the ride.

  6. As vehicles, respect all traffic rules, such as:

    1. Ride in the same direction as the other vehicles on their side of the road.
    1. Obey traffic laws, including waiting at red lights and stopping for stop signs at all times regardless of convenience.
    1. Ride in single file on traffic roads, only doubling to pass.

    2. Not move sideways without first seeing that there's no overtaking traffic that will be surprised.
    1. At night, use at least a headlight and rear reflector. A taillight is recommended in addition, but there are no substitutes for a headlight and rear reflector.
  1. Always yield by a safe margin to pedestrians and slower riders and warn all obstructing pedestrians or riders of their intent to pass so as not to frighten nor surprise.

  2. Show courtesy and respect to others at all times. We are ambassadors for McGill University and are responsible for the integrity of the University and the reputation of the Team.
